My favorite quote

"I believe real art, in whatever form it takes, is our essence revealed and expressed. And, to me, this act of courageously offering your essence to the world regardless of the reception is a powerful act of Love that benefits others."

Corn is grown all over the United States..why not use it to coat paper products such as cups and plates? Americans drink coffee from oil-based plastic and polystyrene(styrofoam). Save our earth and landfills by avoiding these products. Use biodegradable products such as plastic made from corn.
Biodegradable =compostable!!
Corn-based coating in your coffee cup can save our landfills from oil and chemicals.
Styrofam (polystyrene) coffee cups can ruin the ecosystem by choking small animals that eat bits of the chemicals (styrofoam).

Biodegradable vs Degradable Products

When you are deciding what products to buy that are degradable or biodegradable, you must first define the terms.
Degradable is oil based products that break down chemically. Biodegradable products micro-organize and degrade naturally.

Biodegradable products are sugar cane and corn-based paper products. Degradable products are oil based plastic products .

The advantage of degradable products is that even though it takes
decades, the product will eventually leave the landfill, whereas the disadvantages are many. The degradable product is oil based and heat, moisture and UV exposure can eventually break down the product chemically.

The advantage of biodegradable paper products provide a cleaner environment and degrade faster due to bacteria and fungi action.
The biodegradable garbage bags disintegrate so that the materials can degrade faster. Sugar cane and corn products can disintegrate in 40-60 days .

Biodegradable paper products can be made from recycled wood pulp. Gene Odum remarks in Ecology and Our Endangered Life –Support Systems,, “ as long as there are plenty of trees and paper mills, there is little incentive to invest in facilities that are needed for a recycling program” .He goes on to say,” “ the costs of new paper may increase due to pulpwood supplies falls short of demand.”

Decide for yourself if you think it is better to destroy our trees rather than use the bi-product (waste) that is made after the juice is extracted from sugar cane. This natural bi-product (Bagasse) is pressed to make paper products. It is your decision to make an impact. As Daniel Goleman states in Ecological Intelligence(2009), “ know your impact, favor improvements and share what you learn.”
